Right, that's summer over and done with, time to crack out the woolly jumpers and boots (except the BBC tells me this week is going to be HOT).

This weekend saw the annual Team Waste Summer Camp, hosted as ever by the inimitable [info]geoffcampbell in darkest Wales, and attended by the Usual Suspects. Scary to think that I've been going to these parties for a number of years and that these poor people only ever seem to see me in a state of pre-, mid- and post-inebriation - and they still talk to me! However, this year's do was very well-behaved, with no blood, vomiting (that I could see anyway)or destruction. The conversion of the Range Rover into a quad bike is probably better classified as installation art as it was mostly done by mostly sober people. [info]kjersti's method of coping with camping was inspired and one that more people should adopt, unless you are a lightweight like me.

The one worrying thing about the whole weekend was the relief of so many of these friends-of-long-standing that I was now "settled" and "tamed" by my engagement to [info]drpete. Now I know I've been a bit naughty on occasion, but really, I don't think I've done anything that bad. However, the horror on [info]ramtops' face when she learned I'd been baking was almost worth donning the apron of domesticity for.

Spent yesterday being rather poorly on the sofa (some lurgy, not alcohol you untrusting lot!) and missing out on a sunshiney bank holiday! Bah. Couldn't sleep for mad paranoid dreams and the sodding helicopter that circled the flat for at least half an hour at about 4am, waking up the man upstairs in the process and encouraging him to pull out every pair of shoes from his wardrobe and drop them on the floor repeatedly.

[info]drpete has gone off to Harrogate for a few days, to go and stroke nurses (or something similar) so I suppose I'd better tidy the flat while he's away and be all good and domestic. Amazing how much crap two people can generate...

Dr Pete in Horrorgate? How long for? Feel free to pass on my mobile number (if you have it - if not I will send it to you) in case he has time for lunch / a drink.

What was Kjersti's method for coping with camping? did it involve champagne?

I think it was Chablis, actually! Although our host did a very good impression of drinking a whole bottle of JD to himself and then starting on the malt whisky for breakfast.

Tents are just wrong past a certain age.

10, I believe, is the limit.

The end of August is generally when I start to lovingly fondle favourite cardigans, scarves and mittens. Of course, I'm usually ready for sundresses again by late November. I vote for two seasonal cycles a year instead of one.

You may joke, but I did bring my gloves to Wales as it can often get a bit nippy there.

I'd be happy to keep today's weather for a few more months. Or years.

Sounds like a top weekend. I really must get to summer camp one of these years. It would be good to catch up with Geoff.

We were thinking of you as we trundled into cloudy Wales and how you really should come next time (i.e. come back, we miss you!)

tamed? you?

not a chance, m'dear :)

I do wish I could remember a little bit more of the conversations I had with you and [info]kjersti on Saturday night though; what I recall of them was good, but one can never be entirely sure...
